The K-Wagen, also known as the K-Wagen PzKpfw VK 4501 (K), was a super-heavy tank prototype developed by Germany during World War I. It was designed by the Krupp company in response to the British deployment of the Mark V tanks on the Western Front.
The K-Wagen was a massive and heavily armored tank, weighing around 120 tons and measuring over 33 feet long. It had a large boxy turret on top with a 77mm gun and two 7.92mm machine guns. The tank was powered by a Daimler-Benz MB501 550hp engine, allowing it to reach a top speed of 4.5 mph.
Only two prototypes of the K-Wagen were built, with the first prototype completed in 1917. However, the tank never saw action on the battlefield as the war ended before it could be mass-produced. The project was eventually scrapped due to its impractical size and the challenges of transporting and deploying such a massive vehicle.
Today, one of the K-Wagen prototypes can be seen on display at the Kubinka Tank Museum in Russia. The K-Wagen remains a fascinating piece of military history, representing the extreme limits of tank design during World War I.
